Explorers are 14–18 years old.

Explorers enjoy an active and varied programme. This programme was recently updated. The update makes it more relevant to today’s young people. It keeps it exciting and full of traditional Explorer Scout themes.

Explorer Scouts are encouraged to lead themselves in deciding the Unit’s programme.. This is done with guidance and support from the leaders. The Network section also includes the Young Leaders’ Scheme. This scheme allows young people to take on a leadership role in a younger section. It also provides leader training for them.

There is wider scope for activities like climbing, sailing, campaigning, performing, mountaineering. We also do expeditions including the international Explorer Belt, D of E and Jamborees. Our activities form part of our challenge badges and awards. We work towards the Chief Scout’s Diamond and Platinum awards, as well as the Bronze, Silver and Gold D of E awards.

In Sale District we have three Explorer units, MacAlpine, Wyvern and Hive. All three offer a full Explorer programme. Hive and Wyvern meet on a Monday, and MacAlpine on a Wednesday, so we can offer Explorer scouting on two different evenings.

We also have a Young Leaders Explorer Scout Unit, for those Explorers interested in helping as as a leader, and working towards their Young Leader Belt qualification

Due to our waiting lists and need for adult volunteers we can only accept joining enquiries for young people from the M33 post code area
